Big Beach in Ucluelet is my personal favorite beach on Vancouver Island. Known for its rocky shoreline, dramatic waves, and unforgettable sunsets, it’s a place I always look forward to visiting.

At Big Beach Ucluelet, the waves crash hard against the rocks, filling the air with the sound of the Pacific. The Black Rock Oceanfront Hotel sits above the shoreline, adding to the dramatic coastal view. It’s a perfect place to sit, watch the surf, and take in the raw beauty of the West Coast.
Tide Pools and Driftwood
Exploring the shoreline is always an adventure. Tide pools reveal sea life at low tide, while driftwood and sea-worn treasures scatter the beach. Kids and adults alike can spend hours searching, climbing, and discovering something new each time.
The Shipwreck Around the Corner
One of the most unique features of Big Beach is the nearby shipwreck. Walk around the corner and you’ll see the remains of a wreck that recently survived a fire, with surprisingly little damage. It’s a reminder of Ucluelet’s deep connection to the ocean and maritime history.
Campfires at Sunset
For me, the best part of Big Beach Ucluelet is the campfires. As the sun sets, families and friends gather along the beach to enjoy the glow of a fire with the ocean as a backdrop. Watching the sky turn orange and pink while the waves crash is the perfect way to end a day on Vancouver Island.
