Little Beach Ucluelet: The Perfect Spot for a Sunset Campfire

Little Beach in Ucluelet is one of my favourite spots for sunset campfires. It’s a small, tucked-away beach, and the short walk from the parking lot makes it easy to carry everything you need; including firewood. After a long day exploring the west coast, it’s the perfect place to wind down as the sun sets over the Pacific.

Easy Access and Simple Relaxation

Part of what makes Little Beach Ucluelet so great is how accessible it is. The walk from the parking area takes less than a minute, and you’re instantly standing on soft sand with the ocean stretching in front of you. For families, that easy access makes all the difference. You can bring snacks, chairs, and gear without the usual uphill struggle back to the car afterward.

Small Beach, Big Character

As its name suggests, Little Beach is on the smaller side; but that’s part of its charm. It feels cozy and calm, framed by rugged rocks on either side. There’s still plenty to explore without feeling overwhelmed. At low tide, you can find tide pools and small rock shelves filled with ocean life, while at sunset the whole beach glows in gold and orange light.

A Sunset Fire to Remember

On our most recent visit, we set up a small fire as the sun dipped below the horizon. The kids roasted marshmallows, ran along the shoreline, and watched the sky turn pink. For a bit of fun, I showed them how an emergency flare burns—something I’d been saving for the right moment. My wife’s reaction was priceless; she thought I was lighting off a firework and braced for a loud bang. Instead, it was just a quiet, bright flare glowing against the ocean backdrop.

Why Little Beach Ucluelet Belongs on Your List

Little Beach Ucluelet is everything a west coast evening should be; simple, beautiful, and a little bit spontaneous. The short walk, easy setup, and incredible sunsets make it perfect for families or anyone looking to enjoy a campfire by the ocean. Whether you’re watching the tide roll in, exploring tide pools, or laughing around the fire, Little Beach always delivers that classic Vancouver Island moment.
