Rathtrevor Park Camping: Family Trip and First Core9 Tent Test

Our family’s latest adventure took us to Rathtrevor Park on Vancouver Island. It’s one of our favorite places for family camping, and this trip was even more exciting because we tested out our new Core9 tent for the first time. Rathtrevor Park camping is always memorable, but this trip gave us a few new stories to tell.

Testing the Core9 Tent

Setting up the Core9 tent was quick and easy. The process went smoothly, and even packing it back into the bag was no issue. For a large tent, it felt simple enough to handle, which makes it a great choice for families like ours. Taking it down was just as easy, which is always a relief on a family camping trip.

A Coffee Emergency

On our first morning, I realized we had forgotten the coffee beans for our Coleman coffee maker. At 6 a.m., I made a quick run back home to Nanaimo to grab some. I made it back before anyone else was awake, and by the time the family was stirring, I had coffee ready to go. It turned into a funny memory and a reminder that coffee always makes camping better.

Relaxing and Exploring Rathtrevor Park

The rest of the morning was slow and peaceful. We relaxed at our site, enjoying the tall trees and the sounds of nature around us. Later, we walked down to the north end of the beach. Rathtrevor Park camping always includes beach walks, and this one gave us plenty of time to take in the views.

Family Fun on the Beach

After lunch, we headed to the sandy stretch of beach. Caspian, our two-year-old, had a blast flying a kite for the first time. Raiya and Aurora built sandcastles nearby, their laughter carrying across the sand. Watching them enjoy the day reminded me why Rathtrevor is one of the best family campgrounds on Vancouver Island.

Why Rathtrevor Park Camping Belongs on Your Itinerary

Rathtrevor Park camping offers everything from easy tent setups and relaxing forest sites to wide sandy beaches perfect for kids. Our trip was full of small adventures—coffee runs, kite flying, and sandcastles—that made it special. If you’re planning a family camping trip on Vancouver Island, Rathtrevor Park belongs at the top of your list.
